...Wow...just learned some very basic things I should've taught my kids while they were preschoolers! I should've gone so much farther than just reading the title before reading the text! I love the part about "these marks make words"! This makes a lot of sense!

Make-up or write a true story about your family. Use rhyme and repetition if you choose. Make it scary or funny. Join your child in doing the illustrations. Don't forget to add a cover and the title and author page. You can have your stories spiral bound at Office Max for about $3. Save and read often. Have fun together!!!!!!!!!!!!

I keep trying to think of one of our favorite books that was a song. "Today is Monday. Today is Monday, Monday, string beans. All you little children come on and eat." There is a food for each day and we sing it over like you do for the twelve days of Christmas We had such fun singing and it was perfect for learning the days of the week.

My kinderkids loved the book Caps for Sale. That would be another great one to read when you're talking about monkeys and looking for ideas to act out. Pretending to walk with all those caps on your head is such fun and of course kinderkids love being copycats.

How about having the teacher write a sentence underneath each page dictated by the child artist. Read together with the class and put it in the class library for future classtime readings

Although Christmas is past, I never get tired of the stories. The Night Before Christmas is a favorite tradition to read/quote every year. With my older children who have heard it many times, we each say a line round-robin style. Sometimes we "trick" each other into "having" to finish the line by saying only part of it and stopping in the middle. Their is always someone who just can't resist

I loved this book as a child. It's one of those stories that still holds a nastalgic quality for me. Read it at bedtime while watching the moon from the bedroom. You could also use the story as a springboard to discuss other nocturnal animals or the cycle of the moon. Opportunity for growth is endless when you read with your child!

My kinder kids in Phoenix. AZ had to use lots of imagination for this book since some of them have never been in snow. It's a good time to pretend we are putting on all of our winter clothes and then trudging in the snow, making a snowman and throwing snowballs.
